Since its inception in 1990, the Sara L. Spurlark Awards has provided financial support to eighty- five Kenwood graduates recognizing academic excellence, school leadership, and community service.  

These students have gone on to not only be outstanding members of their respective communities, but also serve as stellar global citizens and professionals making contributions to the world in areas of science, medicine, arts and entertainment, education, and academic research to name a few industries.  

Financial support from the Spurlark Award offers exceptional students additional resources to slightly reduce the significant load that higher education expenses often produces.  It offers students an additional vote of confidence illustrating the Sara L. Spurlark Award’s investment in their future and in their dreams.

The Spurlark Award strives to expand this financial support to students by giving more, giving more often, and backing up that financial support with additional resources that could further help our awardees succeed, thrive, and pay forward some of the ways they had been supported.

Each dollar of support we provide to students makes a difference in the education of our awardees.  It reduces the financial obligation of the student, which in turn increases that student’s ability to focus on their studies and offers them greater ability to decide how to spend their valuable time, the greatest commodity of a college and grad student.  Their experience is magnified by their ability to get involved in experiences that help build the foundation of their future.
